Our forces are back from this years Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia and have put together a spotify list of their favorite acts from the line-up.
This years showcases were held by the great Sacred Bones Records together with Chile’s prolific Blow Your Mind Records collective, which is managed by members of Föllakzoid that you should keep an eye out for if you live in Gothenburg!
This year featured a dark, heavy and loud line-up with plenty of drone orientated acts, such as all time favourites Radar Men From The Moon, Lumerians and Carlton Melton.
Alongside all the heavy sounds filling the weekend, the festival hosted melodical legends such as Spiritualized, Anton Newcombe & Tess Parks and neo psych wonder Jacco Gardner, as well as lable mates of ours PNKSLM bands HOLY and Lucern Race.
1 CARLTON MELTON - KEEPING ON
Northen Californias Carlton Melton’s sound is equal parts, blues, rock, improvisation and drone. Whether the band is hanging on a well-defined riff reminiscent of Led Zeppelin or Joe Walsh or largely abandoning conventional music structure à la Spacemen 3 and Bardo Pond.
2 CHICOS DE NAZCA - BILLYS´S ON THE CORNER
As part of Chile’s BYM Records, Chicos De Nazca benefit from a fluid line-up of musicians who appear across the band’s different albums such as Igancio Rodriguez (The Holydrug Couple) and Juan Pablo Rodriguez (Föllakzoid)
Using analog effects and numerous layers of guitars Chicos de Nazca build their characteristic gentle and psychedelic repertoire which is easily connected to the generation of rock bands that sprung from the post-acid house fever of the late 80s.
3 LUMERIANS - BURNING MIRRORS
Dressed in sparkling silver capes combined with their characteristic colourful video projections and their psychedelic kraut sound the San Francisco based space rockers Lumerians delivered one of the most intense visual shows of the festival. The legacy from former member Luis Vasquez of The Soft Moon is noticable but well reworked and included in the bands sound.
4 RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON- ECHO FOREVER
This is a personal big time favourite of ours. Their debut album ‘Echo Forever’ was released on Fuzz Club Records and sold out in a wimp.
Their approach on the psychedelic rock scene is rather broad. By taking different genres into account such as shoegaze, neo-psych, space and noise rock, they take off in an interstellar exploration of new heavy sounds.
5 INDIAN JEWLERY - EVA CHERIE
Indian Jewelry really do push the boundaries of psych, and their formidable live show will prove to be an assault on your senses.
The group hail from Houston, Texas and achieve the balance of making sonically mesmerising music but with comic elements without bordering on parody.
NEW SINGLE FROM DOLORES HAZE
Great way to start a day! We are here by releasing Dolores Hazes new single "Touch Me" from the upcoming album "The Haze is Forever".
“Touch Me” is grooving and deliciously dark, driven by breathy and melancholic vocals that surge into cathartic energy with every chorus. Basically, this is a track that’ll effectively plunge you into the middle of your very own imaginary epic montage" - Noisey
World, meet your new queens.
